Description

All lamias grow at an accelerated pace compare to humans, and never go through a true baby/toddler stage. Instead, they are hatched looking like an average 6 year old human child but much smaller. After one year, they go into a state known among lamias as 'blue'. When in this state, they are more feral and their thought processes devolve into a more snake-like state of being. During this first period of blue, the lamia will hunt and eat as much food as possible, then go through a state of molting, where they grow rapidly into their next phase. A lamia is fully grown after its 8th molt, and its superficial aging appears to slow dramatically or stop completely. A molting occurs approximately once a year, though lack of food can cause a lamia's molting process to slow down. An average lifespan for a lamia is 20 years, though it is unknown how old a lamia can get. The oldest known lamia went through a particular molting at the age of 40 and became what most people would call a medusa. She is the oldest known lamia in the world and is considered ancient by her people, at the age of 50.

Mother lamias will find a nesting ground and stake her claim for a period of a month, in which she investigates and decides whether the place is worthy as a nesting site. Once she has chosen, she will lay her eggs, approximately 4-8 eggs at a time. She will watch over her nest until the eggs near hatching, at which time she will leave. The babies are hatched with an inborn knowledge of the area that they are in, due to the mother's hunting. This allows the lamia to function well while she is still young.

I'm curious, how do lamia's determine 'human' sizes (the 5'8")? Is there something about their 'human legs length' part of their tail that's structured differently from the rest? Why can't lamia's be considered shorter or taller, depending on how much of their tail they lift off the ground?
